happy friday: jessica + ryan's wedding

A special congrats to the stunning bride, Jessica and her charming groom, Ryan who got married on June 23 at Sea Pines Country Club in Hilton Head Island! It was so nice working with Jessica and Jenn at Hammerpress to do the calligraphy for the couple's invitation suite, along with a 3-letter monogram and some words and phrases for their wedding programs and thank you cards.

I took a quick photo of a few of the stationery pieces and I hope to have professional pics of this suite on the new website coming soon so stay tuned!

happy friday: mm ink in occasions magazine: part 2

This week, I am so excited to share beautiful photos from the 2 Occasions Magazine style shoots that I had the pleasure of doing calligraphy for. If you missed the first one (city chic style), check it out here.

For the second style shoot, I worked with two of my favorite gals, Ashley Baber of Ashley Baber Weddings, and Lisa Hladish of Paper Daisies Stationery to help create fun, fresh and modern stationery items.  Emails and calls from these two talented and sweet ladies are the best; and they are always the beginning of what I know will be something fabulous! This shoot was just that, and Lisa did an amazing job (as usual) with the stationery designs and incorporating my calligraphy throughout. Preston Bailey's blog is inspirational and I love his mix of wedding, design and business advice. In one of his posts last week, he mentioned a great tool called Chip It! (by Sherwin-Williams) that lets you turn any online picture into a color palette! I think it's so cool! Here is a demo using my color inspirations for the photo shoot:

Neat right!?! It's perfect for someone who loves to play with color. Have fun!

happy friday: weekend reading

To wake up this morning and read Jack and the Beanstalk to my son and his classmates (I got the biggest smile and hug from him when I was done), get home to some pretty William Arthur envelopes to make them stunning with calligraphy, and get a text from my hubby that says "You rock mama.....I love you" MADE MY MORNING!!! :) It all felt right and balanced - being with the ones I love and doing what I love. And the text - icing on the cake ;) Thanks babe! *blushing*

When I heard about the book 'The Big Enough Company' I was drawn to it because it's all about creating a business that fits in your own space - the right mix - giving your all to your clients and business partners while fulfilling your personal goals and needs as well.  

I am just a few pages in but learning quite a bit already and  hope to cozy up this weekend to read more. I'll post a review and my thoughts once I am done!

happy friday: art and lettering fun

This week, I spent a bit of time finalizing my plans for calligraphy workshops that I will be attending this year. Continuing education and honing my craft are very important to me; and I am looking forward to learning new techniques and enjoying the time with other calligraphers!  My first workshop for the year is next month with Yves Leterme, an amazing contemporary calligrapher from Belgium. The workshop will be all about capturing that energetic feeling in your lettering - I cannot wait!!!!!! I'll be sure to post pics of my lettering adventures and fun practicing!

While planning, I went through my work from a calligraphy convention I attended last year and I really enjoyed the watercolor and lettering workshop I did while there. It was a 1/2 day session and this picture below is one of the mini projects I worked on. Fun! Fun!

What a fun time we had at Summerour on Wednesday for an Occasions Magazine editorial shoot! Picture beautiful Claire Pettibone gowns, P3 Lab making the models look fabulous, gorgeous flowers by Amy Osaba and lovely cakes by Sweet Sensations (Amy and Sharon are so fun and sweet!); and Kristy ( so happy to finally meet her!!) styling the stationery pieces! I just love seeing my calligraphy with Kristy's artwork - we make a great team! :) And all of this goodness was captured on camera by Christine Gallagher Photography.

My husband and I are from the Bahamas so I get really excited when I spot a Bahamas wedding featured on a blog or magazine. This week was no exception as I read Style Me Pretty's tweet about this lovely wedding on Pink Sands Beach in Harbour Island! What a pleasant surprise to see that Erin and Danny's beautiful wedding was featured on Style Me Pretty last month! Erin and her mom did such a fabulous job with all of the details! Munaluchi Bride's first digital magazine debuted on Tuesday and it is GORGEOUS - from cover to cover!!! Munaluchi Bride Magazine is a chic and stylish publication filled with tons of inspiration for women of color. I am so grateful to be featured in their first digital release! Here's a look at the feature (I think Amelia was born with a camera in her hand - such beautiful images :)

It was such a joy working with Lisa Hladish, Janie Medley, Dana FitzGerald and Amelia Johnson on such a fun project! I had a blast working with the team to help them bring their vision for the Oh Happy Day stationery to life through my lettering and Lisa's beautiful custom made stationery pieces.

I wanted to create lettering for the Oh Happy Day stationery pieces that was fun and included playful flourishes throughout. I started with hand lettering the bride and groom's names and adding fancy swirls to make them stand out. This became the inspiration for the rest of the calligraphy I did for the invitation, RSVP card, monogram and place card paper ribbons.

For the menu cards, I wanted to emphasize the idea of a celebration filled with excitement and cheer. So I really had fun with the lettering and incorporated lots of flourishing for the Menu header. The swirl banners for each course was a nice addition that also sparked the idea for the heart seals.

The super talented Lisa Hladish of Paper Daisies Stationery printed the calligraphy on beautiful custom cut paper she provided and assembled all of the stationery pieces. I love seeing my calligraphy on her beautiful stationery!

I think the stationery items are the perfect fit for a happy wedding day!

I love this invitation suite! Graphic Designer, Leslie Vega and I worked together to create this beautiful invitation design for Carly and Wes' December wedding which was held at the Ritz-Carlton in Orlando.
